CIU Renews MÜDEK Accreditation
Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Cyprus International University (CIU), Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuşaf, announced that the Undergraduate Programs in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering have undergone a general re-evaluation by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) during the Fall 2024/25 semester, resulting in a five-year extension of their accreditation validity.
Kuşaf explained that MÜDEK, an independent organization aiming to enhance the quality of engineering education both in Turkey and internationally, promotes continuous improvement and guarantees the competencies of engineering graduates, and became a full signatory of the Washington Accord in 2011. “As a result,” he said, “graduates of programs accredited by MÜDEK are now recognized as having equivalent engineering education in other signatory countries such as the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Japan.”
Highlighting that MÜDEK has also been a member of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) since 2006 and has been authorized since 2009 to award the EUR-ACE Label to engineering bachelor's programs, Kuşaf emphasized: “The EUR-ACE label is a mark of quality assurance in engineering education in Europe. It shows that the program meets European engineering education standards and its graduates have professional recognition in the field of engineering across Europe.”
Kuşaf noted that MÜDEK evaluates engineering programs based on specific criteria, including quality assurance, outcomes, resources, and continuous improvement processes. Since their inception, both programs have operated with a commitment to quality assurance and have adopted MÜDEK’s approach to continuous improvement. In this regard, laboratory infrastructures are being further developed, faculty qualifications are being enhanced, and curricula are regularly updated to meet the demands of the modern era.” He added that feedback from students, alumni, employers, and academics is regularly reviewed to contribute to program outcomes: “Our programs aim not only to meet current standards but also to raise the quality of engineering education continuously.” Kuşaf concluded by noting that the list of undergraduate programs accredited by MÜDEK can be accessed from: https://www.mudek.org.tr/tr/akredit/akredite2025.shtm
