Emphasis on Technology and Ethics on World Innovation Day
Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Bay, a faculty member at the School of Applied Sciences at Cyprus International University (CIU), shared her insights on the transformative power of technology and the responsibilities it brings as part of the World Innovation Day on April 21. Highlighting the critical role of innovative thinking in the advancement of humanity, Bay emphasized that technological developments today are fundamentally reshaping every aspect of life.
In her evaluation, Assist. Prof. Dr. Bay stated: “Technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things, and blockchain are redefining not only industries but also individuals’ daily lives.” She noted that AI-powered systems play a significant role in early disease diagnosis in healthcare and enable personalized learning experiences in education, contributing to more accessible and effective use of information.
It was also emphasized that technological innovations not only provide convenience but also create new areas of opportunity. Assist. Prof. Dr. Bay pointed out that entrepreneurial ecosystems allow innovative ideas to rapidly transform into products, while digital platforms strengthen global collaborations. She also noted that remote working models and digital communication tools, which became widespread after the pandemic, have led to lasting changes in the way business is conducted.
Drawing attention to the ethical and social dimensions of technological advancements, Assist. Prof. Dr. Bay stressed that issues such as data security, privacy, and algorithmic bias must be carefully addressed in the innovation process. She concluded by underlining that innovation is not limited to generating new ideas; it is equally important to implement these ideas for the benefit of humanity, and individuals and societies who use technology consciously and ethically will shape the future.
