Special issue of folklore/literature Journal published

Earthquake Special issue of CIU folklore/literature Journal has been dedicated to the “Champion Angels”
‘Earthquake Special Issue’ of the folklore/literature Journal, published by Cyprus International University (CIU) and listed and accessible in important international indexes such as Web of Science and Scopus, has been published.
The journal's Earthquake Special Issue was edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mihrican Aylanç and guest editors were Prof. Dr. Hande Birkalan-Gedik and Dr. Erdoğan Gedik from Frankfurt University.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylanç gave information about the special issue and said, “National and international migration, homelessness, economic, social and cultural impoverishment and psychological trauma are the first effects of the earthquake. We aimed to present the facts created by this disaster to the scientific world by preparing a special issue in which these are discussed from the perspective of different disciplines like anthropology, folklore, psychology, history and literature.”
Aylanç stated that they addressed human behavioral responses to strong earthquakes and also examined current issues in the field of disaster research, and that they hoped that this would act as a driving force not only for academia but also for policy makers.
Aylanç reminded that they faced the earthquake disaster in Adıyaman where the volleyball team, their trainers and parents were for the volleyball tournament but lives were lost due to the earthquake.  She added that, “This issue is dedicated to our children and their bereaved families in order to keep the legacy of our Champion Angels alive; they did not deserve such an ending at such a young age. Following the trauma caused by the war on our island, this has been the most extensive collective sense of grief shared by our community. “
Aylanç stated that they included a commemorative article written by CIU Faculty of Arts and Sciences Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bengü Berkmen for our Champion Angels in order to remember their pain and create a special place in cultural memory.  She noted that they also included thirteen original research articles within the scope of the Special Issue.
Aylanç explained that the Special Issue included various research and findings put forward by earthquake victim writers; observations, interviews, interviews based on field research in the earthquake region and analyses of data obtained from the media; memorable images of places that were devastated; stories told about what happened; and articles examining historical and mythological reflections.

Aylanç to conclude stated that the CIU administration and the contributors to the folklore/literature journal expressed their heartfelt wish that no one ever experiences such a disaster and pain again, and noted that those who interested can access the Earthquake Special Issue from the links below:  https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/fe/issue/88728
