About the Program

The period in which the child's cognitive, social-affective and psychomotor skills are the fastest covers the first six years of child’s life. The structure, contents and innovations of Preschool Education programs are at least as fast as the development of children in this period. Preschool teachers, who are the first people with whom children establish a bond after their families, need to go through a dynamic education process in order to follow these innovations, to have information about the practices carried out with different approaches, in short, to improve themselves.  
Within the framework of the education given in the program, it is aimed to train teachers who know the characteristics of early childhood, does child-centred practices, creative, contributes to the development of society by giving importance to family participation and education in the field, directs the education program with alternative approaches in early childhood education, researches, analytical thinking, has effective problem-solving skills, reach, produce and share information as individuals who respect human and scientific values. It is among the ideals of the department to train teachers who are open-minded, have vision and experience, have strong personalities, will shape society with their intellectual qualities who will both educate preschool children and contribute to the development of effective parenting strategies for families.

Accreditations

Pre-School Teacher Education Program, as an indicator of is quality of education, was accredited and certified by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs (EPDAD), one of the national accreditation organizations, in 2020.

Cyprus International University offers a wide range of opportunities and guides students to follow a successful path in their career acquisition process. In addition to universally accepted teaching and learning standards, contemporary teaching practices and philosophies are also adopted in the program. In addition to taking theoretical and practical courses during their 4-year undergraduate period, teacher candidates take research project courses that will support their academic thinking skills, lay the foundations for a scientific approach to events, and highlight their investigative aspects and problem-solving skills. Preschool Teaching is a field with rich job opportunities. In recent years, it has been accepted that preschool education is very important in the world, considering that it supports the development areas of the children, enabling them to be more productive and productive in adulthood and reveal their existing potential more easily. Both in our country and in other countries, importance is given to the dissemination of preschool education. In this context, the need for qualified educators to work in preschool education institutions is also increasing. Graduates of the Cyprus International University Preschool Education Program can work as teachers, administrators and supervisors in the fields related to the education of children in the preschool period. Graduates can work as teachers in kindergartens,  private kindergartens, private education centres and nursery classes of private schools within the body of state primary schools. In addition, they can pursue an academic career by completing their master's and doctorate education in the relevant departments of universities.

The course introduces students with basic speech patterns at the elementary level. Through listening students will identify different sound rhythms and practice pronounciation of letters, words and phrases. Through speaking students will identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. In addition students will be able to define themselves or others, answer questions in the Present Simple tense, use the prepositions of place, and talk about their daily routines. Through reading students read paragraphs and simple texts to improve their general comprehension of the passages, and answer the given comprehension questions. INGL152 is the continuation of INGL151. The course integrates the four main skills at a higher elementary level for students. Through recessive skills, which are listening and reading, students identify different sound rhythms and practice the pronunciation of letters, words and phrases. Also, by reading higher level paragraphs and texts, students infer the meaning of new words by using their existing vocabulary. Through productive skills, which are speaking and writing, students identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. Furthermore, students use the Present Continuous and Past Simple tenses to participate in basic dialogues and daily exchanges, and express themselves effectively. Also, through writing, students produce their own sentences by recycling the obtained new vocabulary in guided, controlled paragraphs they compose.

This course aims to create a multifaceted conceptual awareness about the phenomenon of 'happiness', which is said to be the ultimate goal in life. The subject of happiness has been addressed by ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists and social psychologists for approximately 2500 years since the ancient philosophers. In this course, the concept of happiness, which has different definitions, leisure, meaning of life, pleasure, conscious awareness, flow, passion, success, values, purpose, material and human relations will be examined. Happiness will be discussed not as a result but as a process that includes uncertainties and negativities, emphasizing the importance of knowing the source of unhappiness. Students will be encouraged to design their own life journeys in the context of poetry, short stories and short films.

Çocuk içinde bulunduğu aile ve okul çevresinin de katkılarıyla bilişsel ve dil GELİŞİMini sağlıklı olarak tamamlar. Çocuğun dil gelişimi 5 yaşına kadar önemli bir bölümü tamamlanır. Bir diğer ifadeyle beş yaşındaki çocuk 2000 civarında kelimeyi sözcük dağarcığında tutar. Çocuk tıpkı bir yetişkin gibi anadilini konuşabilir. Kişiler arası iletiişim ve dil gelişimi açısından okul öncesi dönem oldukça önemli bir dönem olarak kabul edilmektedir. Dolayısıyla erken çocuklukta dil ve kavram gelişimi üzerinde durulması çocuğun iletişim becerisi için esastır. Bu derste özellikle, dil gelişimi ve aşamaları; dil kazanımına ilişkin görüşler; dil ve konuşmanın fizyolojik temelleri; yaşlara göre kavram gelişimi, kavram GELİŞİMine yönelik yaklaşımlar, kavramların sınıflandırılması; dilin semantik ögesinde kavramların yeri, örgütlenmesi ve düzenlenmesi; kavram ve dil GELİŞİMindeki ilişki, değerlendirme başlıkları ele alınacaktır.
